Ashley Shelton: Leadership

Susanna Hegner

Ashley Shelton launched the Louisiana office of One Voice, an organization created in response to housing, education, civil rights, and policy advocacy needs in the wake of Hurricanes Katrina and Rita. One Voice fosters public engagement, provides access to data for policy analysis and builds alliances with partners and supporters committed to building a strong, informed electorate.

Before joining One Voice, Shelton was Vice President of Programs at the Louisiana Disaster Recovery Foundation, where she designed, initiated and coordinated a comprehensive policy strategy on a local, state and national level.

Shelton was a Fellow in the Emerging Leaders Program at Duke University and the University of Cape Town, and was appointed to the Foundation for the Mid South’s Commission to Build Philanthropy. Ashley earned her B.A. in Mass Communications from Louisiana State University in Baton Rouge. She serves on the boards of the Equity and Inclusion Campaign and the Knock-Knock Children’s Museum. She also volunteers with the La Capitale Chapter of the Links, Incorporated.

In this clip, Shelton describes the importance of supporting new leaders with fresh ways of thinking.
